Central heating systems, which basically comprise of a set of central heating radiators, boiler and pipework, can be segregated into two distinct classes, pumped systems and vented systems.
Popularly used are pumped systems which comprise of a main feed and expansion water tank that heats up and transmits the heat through pipework to secondary heaters (radiators). The expansion tank will always allow for any water expansion that may occur as it gets hot.
The vented central heating system, on the other hand, is a sealed system, and it doesn’t have the centre section. Since it is totally sealed, the feed-expansion tanks are not required. The main pluses of this system is that problems such as leaking and airlocks are minimised and, particularly for those who live in colder climates, pipes will not freeze.
You may ask why you need gas central heating and what are its rewards?.
The simple answer is that it will allow you to heat your entire house or office quickly without compromising the air quality. Before the gas central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the home warm or even coal fires. However, these older heating methods make the air sticky and hard, and can also emit an unpleasant odour.
Such problems never occur with central heating but they require regular maintenance to ensure their peak operation. Spring and summertime often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly switched on when a chilly wind blows in. Instead, as the weather begins to change, you should use it by degrees in order to spot any problems and give you time to call an heating engineer before winter.
Furthermore, some of these systems also give admission to air and dirt; therefore draining is a necessity, which should be done regularly with an annual service schedule. To flush the system, open the valve carefully and drain the collected water into a bucket, while ensuring that no further water gets into the heating system.
