Gas Boiler insurance is common

There are householders insurance policies to cover most eventualities these days, from pet health insurance to consumer electronics cover. There are those insurance policies that are obviously more important than others and some are required by law such as car insurance. The bank will need the borrower to take out buildings insurance in a case when there is the need for a mortgage to buy a property. Insurance offers security against unanticipated events that can severely affect life and property.

Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find gas central heating insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. These policies are used only rarely while in reality it should be the opposite because even though their rank in terms of one’s need don’t match that of insuring the actual house, the central heating system of a home is an absolute need and fixing it can be costly. A broken down central heating system is highly troublesome, particularly in cold weather, and waiting for someone to come and fix it can be utter misery. Even deadlier is the risk of poisonous carbon monoxide seeping into your home from a leaky central heating system which has not been properly serviced.

Various types of plans are available in the market. The usual insurance policy is the one that covers the basic requirements and could include annual inspection and servicing. Maintenance and spare parts coverage are not included in these policies and servicing plans. For as long as the central heating boiler is under warranty, the manufacturer pays for spare parts and repairs; but it is advisable to upgrade a basic plan to full cover with a little additional payment. This is a smart move, specially as the boiler’s warranty period and working life draw to a close. At this step customers have two choices, whether they want just their central heating boiler covered or do they want to extend their cover to other things like radiators, the central heating system and elements of the heating controls and central heating pump.

Sometimes the insurance supplier sets limits or clauses of exemption even in a full cover plan, hence it is important to read the fine print. The number of call outs per year or maximum cost of inclusive repairs for a given period are limited by some suppliers. Unless you make sure the level of cover is adequate buying the protection could be worthless so you should not choose the cheapest premium unless you know what you are getting.
